Bashard documentation
How Bashard stores files across staked nodes coordinated by BNB Chain, and what is live today.
Bashard is decentralized object storage being prepared for BNB Smart Chain mainnet. Files are erasure-coded on the uploader's device into 20 shards and held by a committee of staked storage nodes. Any 7 shards rebuild the file. BNB Chain is the control plane: it records nodes, stake, epochs, committees and the merkle root of every object. The bytes themselves never touch the chain.
Who these docs are for
Store filesTapes, tracks, shards, upload, download and expiry.
Delegate BSHDShare-based pools, rewards, unbonding and slashing.
Operate a nodeWhat a storage node does and how it will be configured.
BuildTypeScript SDK and the read-only indexer API.
The model in one page
- Tape
- Storage you reserve: capacity in MB for a number of epochs, priced in BSHD. Fees are scheduled per epoch and paid to that epoch's committee, weighted by stake.
- Track
- One stored object. The client encodes it into 20 shards, commits to them with a merkle root and registers it on chain.
- Shard
- One of 20 erasure-coded pieces. Any 7 reconstruct the original bytes.
- Epoch
- A fixed period of time. At each boundary fees are paid and a new committee is chosen.
- Committee
- Up to 20 eligible nodes with the highest stake. Shard
iof tracktlives on seat(keccak(t) + i) mod committeeSize. - Certificate
- Signatures from at least two thirds of the committee confirming they hold their shards. Only then is a track certified.
