Staking and delegation
Share-based node pools, rewards, commission, unbonding and slashing.
Every storage node has a staking pool. Operators put in self stake; anyone holding BSHD can delegate to a node. Stake decides which nodes enter the committee and how fees are split.
Share-based pools
When you delegate, you receive shares of the node's pool rather than a fixed token amount. Rewards compound into the pool, raising the value of each share. Slashes come out of the pool, lowering it. Your position is always shares × pool value / total shares.
Rewards and commission
At each epoch close, the fees scheduled for that epoch are paid to committee members weighted by stake. The operator takes a commission, set at registration, which accrues separately and is claimed with claimCommission. The remainder compounds into the pool.
Unstaking
- Request unstake for a number of shares.
- The amount unbonds for 2 epochs and remains slashable during that time.
- After unbonding, call withdraw.
Slashing and jail
A node that repeatedly fails proof-of-access challenges is put to a vote among the committee. With signatures from at least two thirds of the other members, anyone may submit slash(). It burns 5% of the pool and jails the node for 2 epochs, removing it from committee eligibility. Delegators share the loss proportionally.
Choosing a node
- Check uptime and challenge history in the explorer.
- Compare commission rates.
- Spreading stake across nodes reduces exposure to one operator's failure.
- Rewards are not guaranteed; they depend on fees actually paid by tapes.
